3. FEEDBACK FROM FIRST MUSIC EVENT AT RHODES
It was reported that the first music event held on 28 April 2006 had proved successful with about 180 young people from the 15/16 age range attending. Some of the young people had been drinking before arriving at the Complex and as a result where refused entry. The event ran smoothly, with no trouble being reported and there had been a large police presence outside the Complex. The young people who attended largely came from the groups from Snowley Parade, Thorley Park and the Skate areas. Mr Southwell hoped to broaden the appeal of future events in order that a wider range of young people from the Town attended and he hoped to increase the numbers to about 300.
Members considered that there had been a lack of advertising and requested that
Mr Southwell be asked to provide posters for Youth Councillors to display at their schools.
4. SURVEY ON METHODS TO INVOLVE YOUNG PEOPLE IN FUTURE TOWN EVENTS
Youth Cllr Miss Rowbottom suggested that Youth Cllrs prepare a survey to be handed out to all pupils at the various schools in order to ascertain where young people considered there was a gap in entertainment and to establish the precise preferences in terms of organised events. One suggestion was that a summer barbeque could be organised on Sworders Field and that Jamie Southwell should be approached for advice and assistance in the organisation of such an event.
RESOLVED: that Youth Cllr Miss Rowbottom design a survey to be emailed to all members for consideration.
5. MATTERS RAISED BY YOUTH COUNCILLORS
Youth Cllr Stapleton suggested that in order to advertise the existence of the Youth Council the local papers should be contacted with a view to publishing an article.
RESOLVED: that Youth Cllr Stapleton contact the local press.
